Who is Eligible?

The competitive grant program is limited to nonprofit organizations with 501(c)(3) status. The grants program is limited to projects and programs focused in the states of Iowa and Illinois.

IFMC Community Initiative grants are not available to or for the following:

  • Hospitals or hospital foundations
  • Religious or sectarian organizations for religious purposes
  • Capital campaigns
  • Organizations that practice discrimination by race, color, creed, sex, age, religion or national origin
  • Deficit reduction or retirement of debt
  • General endowments
  • Construction projects or real estate acquisitions
  • Political projects
  • Vehicles
  • Athletics or athletic events
  • Grants to individuals
  • United Way organizations seeking support for United Way funded programs
  • Fund-raising events if more than 20 percent of the funds raised are directed to operating expenses
  • Organizations that redistribute funds to other tax-exempt organizations
  • Organizations in which an IFMC board member or his/her spouse has significant involvement

Grants are given in the amounts not to exceed $25,000 per organization for a one-year period of time. Organizations are eligible to receive one grant award per year. Multi-year grants up to a three-year maximum will be considered. Overhead or indirect costs are limited to 10 percent of total project costs.
