121 Iowa Physicians Enrolled in Program to Adopt Health IT
October 13, 2006
The Iowa Foundation for Medical Care is working with physician practices as part of a national initiative to accelerate the pace of adoption and optimize the use of electronic health records in the outpatient setting.
As the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Iowa, IFMC is engaging physician practices across the state through the Doctor's Office Quality-Information Technology Initiative. IFMC has enrolled 121 physicians in an effort to help them prepare for and successfully implement EHRs in their offices.
"Thanks to projects like DOQ-IT, EHRs are becoming increasingly prevalent in both the public and private health care sectors in Iowa and across the nation. EHRs are recognized as beneficial by the Institute of Medicine, the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Physicians," said Peg Mason, vice president of IFMC. "We applaud these 121 physicians for showing leadership by adopting these important tools to help improve care."
DOQ-IT utilizes a proven methodology of guidance and support for the selection and successful implementation of an EHR tailored to each participant's specific needs. IFMC's experience in the ever-evolving EHR market positions it to provide forward-thinking physicians, like the 121 who have signed-up, with information on the latest industry trends and an understanding of how adopting an EHR system will impact their practice in a positive way.
