IFMC Releases 2008 Medicaid Impact Statement

West Des Moines, Iowa - As the Medicaid Medical Services contractor for the Iowa Medicaid Enterprise, IFMC conducts utilization management, care management and quality management for IME.

We work directly with Medicaid members and providers to evaluate and improve health care quality. The ultimate goal for IFMC Medical Services is to promote cost-effective quality health care for Medicaid members. In order to accomplish this goal, we work diligently to implement programs and tools to keep Medicaid members healthy and help them manage their diseases.

In addition to keeping Medicaid members healthy, IFMC Medical Services has also been able to keep health costs down for Medicaid members. Roughly 28 percent of Medicaid members account for 77 percent of Medicaid spending.

Based on these statistics, Medicaid targeted opportunities to implement utilization and care management techniques to address complex and costly member health needs. In fiscal year 2007, the IME contract with IFMC Medical Services benefit/cost ratio for combined federal and state dollars were over $27 million. This translates to every dollar that the state spent on the program, six dollars were saved.
